ABA Bank teams up with SUSE to boost digital banking in Cambodia
Advanced Bank of Asia (ABA Bank), Cambodia's largest private financial institution, has expanded its partnership with SUSE to enable greater access to markets and support economic growth.
The integration and emergence of digital banking channels such as mobile banking, e-wallets, and digital payment systems enable a larger population to have access to finance and engage in the formal economy.
By 2028, it is anticipated that Cambodia's total transaction value will have grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.78 percent.
To keep pace with the growing demand for seamless digital experiences, the ABA Bank has partnered with SUSE to modernise its core infrastructure—transitioning from a legacy monolithic system to a new microservices-based architecture.
With SUSE Rancher Prime and SUSE Security, the bank has achieved 99.999% service availability for all customer-facing and critical applications. It has also cut application deployment time by half and reduced container management costs by 15%.
“With SUSE Rancher Prime, we’ve gained the agility and visibility to innovate confidently—while SUSE Security gives us real-time insights to mitigate risks before they escalate,” said Men Phalla, head of DevOps Department, ABA Bank.
The adoption of SUSE Rancher Prime has enabled ABA Bank's developers and operation teams to build, update, deploy, and manage containerised workloads across cloud and on-premise environments from a single pane of glass, drastically improving agility and visibility.
By automating key processes such as deployment and monitoring, the bank has significantly improved operational efficiency, enabling it to roll out new applications 50% faster.
Transitioning from its previous container management platform to Rancher Prime has allowed ABA Bank to reduce its container management costs by up to 15%, freeing up resources to reinvest in innovation and customer experience enhancements.
In addition, ABA Bank integrated SUSE Security into its new microservices environment to strengthen defenses against evolving cyber threats and ensure ongoing compliance with Cambodia’s financial regulations.
With SUSE Security, the bank's DevOps teams can now detect vulnerabilities in real time and respond with rapid remediation, safeguarding both customer data and the institution's reputation.
“The financial services industry in Asia-Pacific is one of the most dynamic and digitally-driven in the world,” said Gayathri Peria, general manager of SUSE ASEAN.
Looking forward, the bank is exploring advanced AI-driven services, such as customer support assistants, to further enhance its digital channels.
