S.Korea Gov't to back 389 export marketing initiatives and 7,800 companies
Amid growing uncertainties in global trade, the government will invest KRW 98.3 billion this year to support the overseas expansion of export companies.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) announced on the 25th that it held the "2025 Overseas Marketing Policy Consultation Meeting," attended by seven central government ministries, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST), as well as 17 regional governments, and nine export-related organizations, including the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
A total of KRW 98.3 billion will be allocated to 7,817 export companies, according to the MOTIE, based on the government ministries and local governments' plans to support overseas exhibitions this year.
The share of key markets such as ASEAN, Europe, China, and North America this year (75.4%) was similar with last year (77.6%). Meanwhile, the share of emerging markets, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Latin America, and Africa, increased from 2.6% to 4.4%.
By product category, the share of consumer goods increased (33.2% → 39.4%), as well as bio-medical sectors (8.8% → 9.8%).
The integrated Korean Pavilion, aimed at strengthening the K-brand, was installed at 139 exhibitions last year and resulted in export consultations worth USD 16.69 billion and export contracts valued at KRW 3.41 billion.
This year, the government plans to strengthen the cooperation system by regularizing pre-meetings between supporting organizations and holding a performance-sharing conferences to improve the outcomes for participating companies.
In particular, five ministries will hold over 30 related events during the Osaka Expo (April 13–October 13), and events such as "Export Boom Up Korea Week (October 22–31)" will be held at seven exhibition halls across the country during the APEC Summit in Gyeongju, .
An official from the MOTIE said, "we will increase the number of Hallyu Expos from three last year to six this year and strengthen support for exhibitions such as the 'National Brand Exhibition' to match the country's status as a leading export nation."
