Sber and the Bank Union introduce the payment “roaming” for QR-code payments
Any bank can now join Multi-QR
All banks can now enable Faster Payment System (FPS) QR payments via the Multi-QR platform, which is displayed on two million payment terminals across Russia. The technology, along with the platform itself, will be transferred to the Bank Union after all legal issues are resolved.
Any bank can already connect to the new service for free. According to some banks, the necessary improvements will take about two–three weeks. Now, when scanning Multi-QR from the bank's mobile application, the customer will be able to seamlessly pay for the purchase via the FPS. The entire payment chain will remain behind the house and will not affect the payment experience for the consumer, which will be the usual FPS payment experience.
There are no additional costs for banks to use the service: there is no connection fee, and the interbank remuneration rates for participants are similar to the current FPS rates. The protocol is publicly available on the website. Banks can join it right now.
Plans to create a service to ensure seamless interaction between different operators were previously announced by representatives of the Bank Union.
Dmitry Malykh, senior vice president, head of Transactional Banking B2C, Sberbank:
In addition to giving customers even more payment options with Multi-QR, the new service also shows that cross-platform integration is possible and cost-effective. Currently, different banks are not able to read each other’s QR codes, but our technology solves this problem. Therefore, we suggest, instead of limiting the number of QR code operators in the market, working on the integration of platforms in order to seamlessly transfer customers between several operators.
