We will walk through the hidden and secret gardens which tell the story of the City of London.
Including:
- A park around the burial ground of William Blake the poet, John Bunyan, Daniel Defoe and others
- A herbal garden associated with the Barber Surgeons
- A wild field beside the Roman Wall
- A park in the centre of the City dedicated to everyday heroes
- Flowers and shrubs flourishing around a destroyed church and medieval house of religion
- A secret garden with historical treasures
- A beautiful new space beside St Pauls
- A vineyard based on a Roman public bath
- Dick Whittington's park
- A stunning space used for films in a half destroyed Wren church
There will be stops for refreshments and breaks during the walk.
Speaker:
Sam Jacobs is a third generation Londoner and a qualified City of London guide. He leads tours for the City of London corporation and Greater London Authority and the London Festival of Architecture. He's worked in hi-tech in the City for 40 years with Banks & Insurance companies and is a graduate of Cambridge University.
Sam's a specialist in the art, architecture, sights, eating and drinking places, churches, synagogues, gardens and history of London and leads regular walks in the area. He's written several books about London's sights, literature and hotels, pubs and restaurants.
